SEPTEMBER
- NOVEMBER 2009
What
a glorious autumn! PA15 made the most of it, including three
outdoor events. The AGM/BBQ in September was well supported, and
we had a warm sunny day to reflect on the events of the previous
year and plan for the coming one.
As
we entered our tenth year, a count up of events showed that by
March we will have organised well over 100 social
events, in addition to our annual Easter egg collection and quiz
in Church. I'm not sure we realised that we were creating another
Park Avenue institution when a few of us volunteered to start a
small committee to get things underway all those years ago,
inspired by Bob & Alwyne.
Now
each event is run by a volunteer and we manage to have a good time
of fun and fellowship, linked to outreach, without committee
meetings or other bureaucracy. What a blessing!
We
are also delighted that several of the newer families attending
Park Avenue are now regularly joining us at PA15 events.
October
featured two events in succession. One Friday evening we went to
the Derngate to see "Anything Goes", a show by the
Northampton Amateur Operatic Company. The singing was superb, the
dancing, costumes and set supreme, the humour well delivered and
we loved being able to see the orchestra on view. The next day we
had a walk in Salcey Forest, with a quiz included. It was a lovely
crisp autumn afternoon, and we all enjoyed a stroll through the
woods and then the teashop while we waited for the quiz results!
Many thanks to Kathryn and David for organising these for us. As
we moved into November it looked as if the good weather was going
to break, but Saturday evening proved clear and dry, if a little
chilly, for the fireworks supper hosted by Christine and Graham
Kinnersly. Once
again the evening went with a flash, bang and sparkle, thanks to
the traditional supper of jacket potatoes, sausages, mushy peas
and beans, followed by a superb range of puddings. (Food is a
major attraction at many PA15 events!) This
was followed by a dazzling display of pyrotechnics, from the
impressive selection of fireworks provided by PA15ers. Graham's
compost heap will never be the same again! The
event attracted a house and then a garden full of people,
including two babies who managed to sleep through the whole thing. Looking
ahead we have many exciting events planned for the rest of the
coming year, some old favourites, and some never tried before. But
please remember we are not a club; our events are open to all, and
so if you are new to the Church or have been coming here for
years, no matter whether you are young or older, do come along,
join our fellowship and try one of our events.
